 installed ubuntu back to my workstation and trimmed my contact list and
 block/allowed list down to less than 30 (clearing out my blocked/allowed
 lists completely).

 also started a new profile with the new list (making sure my history and
 other settings were clean too).

 still the same problem.

 if i connect with the http method, sometimes it will connect, but won't
 let me send messages most of the time, giving me a "switchboard error".
