 I committed code to respond to pings.  I don't object to adding a /ping,
 but I don't like a couple things about this patch:

 1. ping.c is overkill for a minor feature.  This can happily live in
 existing files
 2. This patch does nothing with the response to a ping, therefore making
 it completely pointless to send a ping.  Now that I look, this is
 mentioned in the description for this patch.  If this gets "finished" I'll
 take another look.
