 I have made the following observation at the use of pidgin:

 If I write a message to another user with pidgin and this starts with the
 sign "<", the interlocutor receives only an empty line. It is identical
 whether behind < something else still stands and how long it is.

 I use the current pidgin 2.0.2 at my test under WIndows XP home. My dialog
 partner used the current GAIM under Ubuntu. Both used the protocol of ICQ.
