 Thanks for the input, but I'd really rather not mess with firewall
 settings. I'm not completely sure what all my IT department has running
 for security (this is a work computer) and I'd prefer not to screw around
 with it.

 It might be a different story if the AIM client and Trillian didn't work.
 But they do, and so whatever firewall settings I have should be
 irrelevant.
