 I'm having same problem here too with a fresh install of Pidgin 2.0.1 W32
 on Windows Vista Ultimate x64

 Just formatted and did a fresh install

 note: Problem could possibly be related to a plugin that is loaded, I
 don't recall seeing this issue before I enabled some of the plugins, but
 then again I didn't look for it.

 I can just delete my prefs file and then open it back up and it'll do ok
 till next time
