Comment:

 this should be fixed for the next release, the problem is a lack of the
 gettext package.

 On an Ubuntu system, I recommend you run `apt-get build-dep gaim` or `apt-
 get build-dep pidgin` (the later will work only with some Ubuntu versions)
 before running configure.
