Well, right now we can
a) turn on/off buddy icons in the preferences window
b) turn off the display of the buddy icon in a chat window, until it is
closed
I'm not a big fan of buddy icons so I mostly keep them off. But if I want
to enable it anyway for a short time, I have to go to the preferences.
What I would like to see here is the behaviour of the Nautilus sidebar:
clicking the border of the sidebar can hide/unhide the bar. If that was
impemented in the chat window, this would mean the following:
- Case "buddy icons disabled": no buddy icons shown in new windows but one
can quickly toggle the display for the current chat by unhiding the "buddy
icon"-bar
- Case "buddy icons enabled": buddy icons are chown in new windows but the
"buddy icon"-bar can be hidden by clicking on the border.
This would also solve a strange UI behaviour we currently see: if buddy
icons are disabled in the preferences, one can still see the "show buddy
icon" in the chat window, but it is not clickable. If the thing above was
implemented, this menu item could be clickable anyway and just unhide the
pic.
