Some time ago I heard tagging and labeling is the future.. Well, the
future is here. Today we have a lot of web sites and applications using
tags instead of folders/groups/younameit. Some examples are blogs, Gmail,
and even Firefox (3.0 will use tags for its bookmark, like del.icio.us
does).
How about tagging contact on pidgin, and creating "search filters"? If I
have a friend who is also a co-worker, a school pal and my brother in law,
in which group should I put him in? Friends, Family, Work or School?
I don't know if someone already proposed it. It will be a nice solution
for requests like:
- http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/231 (applying an "online" tag when
that person is online) or
- http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/925
It will also helps pidgin users adapt to the new GUI. Pidgin could allow
us to make "search folders" like Thunderbird does. Then, it would be easy
to create an special filter like: "Online friends using MSN" or "Co-
workers online on mobile"..
I know it's not an easy request. I also know it will mean a major concept
change, but just think 1 minute about it.
Maybe not now, maybe not in 2.2, but it would be nice to have something
like this in pidgin X.0. (where X >= 3 ;) )
