 I have an aim account and a yahoo account.

 I have myself on my buddy list twice once for my aim account and once for
 my yahoo account.  And by default I start as invisible when I sign on.

 When I sign on my aim account appears as away to me and my yahoo account
 appears as offline.  I've checked it out with a different computer and
 account and my aim account still appear as offline to them, just not to
 me.  If I change my status to away, the aim account takes on that away
 message and the yahoo account comes online with that message.  If I then
 go invisible the yahoo account signs off and the aim account stays the
 same.
