 steps to reproduce:

  1. in internet explorer, change internet options to use only a SOCKS
 proxy
  1. in pidgin, open preferences, go to network tab, in the proxy server
 section set the "proxy type" to "use environmental settings"
  1. attempt to sign into any IM service

 expected result: successful sign in[[BR]]
 actual result: errors, sign in not successful

 follow-up test:
  4. change pidgin's "proxy type" to SOCKS, and use the same host/port
 settings as you used previously in IE's internet options.
  5. attempt to sign into any IM service

 result: successful sign-in
