 i've been getting this as well for quite some time.
 only on my linux boxes though.  my bsd and windows gaim/pidgin work just
 fine.

 at times, i can actually connect, but then i get the dreaded "reading /
 writing error".

 i don't know if this makes a difference, but i have a gmail account
 associated with my passport.  i wonder, does anyone else have a non-
 hotmail account?
