 I don't think turning off allow_shrink is the right answer. I experienced
 this problem as well, and it disappeared after disabling all mail
 notification. If allow_shrink is set to 0, I can't then resize the window
 to what I want.. it's stuck at however wide it started, which is
 ridiculous.
