Comment:

 Can you clarify what you mean? A "drop-down of aliases" would be
 functionally equivalent to the buddy list, except sorted/[uniqed
 /]including-offline-buddies. Is that what you want?

 Also, given your comments in #1312, I don't see why this is a problem at
 all. You said a person had multiple handles on IRC. If you group those
 into a contact, choosing any one of them from the autocomplete will open a
 log viewer with logs from all the buddies in the contact, so you'd see the
 right logs for that person.
