Comment:

 Richard, the code special cases that if you're currently "Available,"
 (i.e., the default state for your complex status is "available,") that it
 defaults a new complex status to "away." In other cases, it defaults to
 the current state.

 I don't know if that's necessarily a good special case, but I recall it
 was added because too many people assumed it would default to Away, and
 were neglecting to change it. I don't use saved statuses at all.

 I confirmed that to be working as intended, so I'm closing this Works for
 Me. Perhaps a better alternative would be to close it as duplicate of
 #1301
