 I have XFCE 4.3.99.1 (xubuntu 6.10). Pidgin is compiled from source.

 I use a vertical panel on the side of my screen with the notification area
 (tray).
 The width of the area is 36, but all other tray icons are 22px.
 Though, the tray icon for pidgin is 48 px (maximum).

 I have tested with an horizontal panel of height 36px, and I do not meet
 the problem.
 The icon for Pidgin is 22px like other icons.

 A workaround for this issue is :

 # cd /usr/local/share/pixmaps/pidgin/tray/
 # sudo mv 48 48-off
 # sudo ln -s 22 default
 # sudo ln -s default 48
 }}}
