 1. Look at the IRC Helper plugin in the Purple Plugins pack from
 http://plugins.guifications.org/trac/downloads -- I think it will do what
 you want.

 2. They should already be bold.

 3. It's not about finding the code, it's about whether or not it's a good
 idea -- and it isn't.
