 i think it's really annoying to have one contact list in evolution,
 another one in pidgin (and for different protocols also..), and even more
 in others places like the icq/msn/jabber servers...
 i think all this should be in one big and organized contact list, that
 will be used for all programs.

 so i think that there should be an option in pidgin to use evolution
 contacts only, and ignore the contacts from the server. evolution allow to
 add different protocols to the same person, so it's ok for pidgin.

 there is a new Telepathy client which try to do that:

 but i think pidgin will be better if it will have that option.
