 I've also had this problem with pidgin 2.0.2 on FreeBSD 6.2-RELEASE-p5.
 The fix "mv /usr/local/lib/pidgin/gevolution.* /tmp" worked here as well.
 I've already mailed Marcus that I'd like to help solve the root of this
 problem if possible.
