 I've just attached a patch that fixes the problem. Checking that the
 xdisplay != NULL isn't strictly necessary (unless gdk_display can be NULL
 -- I certainly don't have a gtk+ old enough to test that branch), but it's
 good practice. I plan to submit this upstream, along with a suggestion for
 preventing GDK_DISPLAY_XDISPLAY from segfaulting when given invalid input,
 but I would appreciate it if you reiterated my request.
