Comment:

 Zephyr is largely not supported in Gaim (now Pidgin), but more
 importantly, 1.5.x is not supported.  I believe the libzephyr including in
 2.x is somewhat improved from what is in 1.x, you might try 2.0.2 and see
 if it helps.
