Comment:

 I took your second patch, and moved that line to
 pidgin_make_accessible_label, so that any function that needs it will
 benefit from this.

 That said, I cannot reproduce the problem you're seeing, or understand how
 your patch fixes it. That particular drop-down doesn't seem to use the
 function you added the call to.

 Please re-open if I've not addressed the issue.
