 The Pidgin status icon theme appears to be balls (green for online, grey
 w/ "X" for offline, clock for away).  Perhaps use yellow or yellow w/ "!"
 for attention?

 Another thought would be to simply overlay the green ball (still online)
 w/ "!" (attention).  For those like me who use the blink setting this
 would be plenty.
