 It wasn't a "trend", it was an exception, made for backwards compatibility
 and the harm /will/ be minimal to none.  We are not going to add extra
 emoticons to protocols that don't support them, regardless of what was
 done in 478.  Adding a secondary match case for a smiley is certainly not
 a horrible offense.  Most people won't see or know the difference, because
 the people who send the wrong one have to type it in manually and are
 going to keep sending it anyway, regardless of whether it's supported, and
 the others are going to pick it from the menu, and it will be sent
 according to the correct smiley theme for AIM.
