 This is a poor thing to make a preference.

 Everyone gets used to the full-width tab in time. I think it's only the
 one-tab case that seems off, Once you have at least two, it starts to make
 sense to expand it. In that case, a better approach might be to turn on
 and off full-width tabs when the number of tabs toggles between one and
 more.
