 capable users aren't going to make use of a feature, that feature should
 be eliminated for those that appreciate it. It's nice just to know the
 general trends of what protocols are being used. If someone at college
 asks me my screen name, I tell them my AIM screen name. The only reason I
 do that is because I've found most of my college buddies use AIM. If a
 friend from Canada asks me the same question (and yes, I do have friends
 in Canada and Europe) I know from trends I've observed on my buddy list
 that my MSN account is probably the most appropriate to tell them.

 Users of the actual "AOL" messenger have different features/etc then the
 normal AIM users.  Though I do see your relation to the current topic and
 this.
