 I am facing a similar problem. I dont think ( I may be wrong ) it is the
 result of two sounds playing simultaneously. I crash quite often. Just a
 single sound is enough. Either the sound after i type something in the
 text box or the sound after the remote buddy types is sufficient for the
 crash. I have gaim2 beta 6 installed too simultaneously. If it was a
 gstreamer bug, shouldn't gaim crash too? It works smoothly and i get the
 sounds too. I tried compiling pidgin without the 'gstreamer' USE flag in
 my gentoo box, and it didn't crash after that. So to sum up gaim2 beta 6 +
 gstreamer = good. and pidgin 2 beta 7 + gstreamer = bad.
