#608: Manual rearrangement of contacts/buddies broken
--------------------------+-------------------------------------------------
Reporter: acli | Type: defect

Component: pidgin (gtk) | Version: 2.0

--------------------------+-------------------------------------------------
This has been broken since some early 2.0 beta.
Summary:
* Suppose contact sorting has been set to Manual.
* Back in 1.x days, it is very easy to both rearrange buddies and
contacts in manual sorting mode. There might be an occasional mistake, but
in general it is very easy for a user to see where the buddy/contact is
going to end up at (i.e., whether before/after a certain contact, or
within a certain contact).
* Since the said 2.0 beta, it is very difficult to rearrange
buddies/contacts in manual sorting mode. Placing buddies/contacts WITHIN a
contact remains easy, but moving a buddy/contact before/after a contact or
between two contacts is almost impossible to do.
Often, this happens if you try to move a buddy to the space between two
other buddies; the usual result is that the buddy "disappears" (i.e., got
moved into one of the other buddies).
(Note: such "disappearances" almost never happened in 1.x versions; this
problem strictly affects only late versions of 2.0 betas)
To reproduce:
(This simplified scenario was first mentioned on 2007/4/21 around 10:00
EDT on #pidgin)
* Find a group with exactly two buddies
* Expand the first one
* Try to drag the second so that it comes before (but not inside) the
first
* RESULT: You can't tell whether you are dragging it inside the first
contact, or before the first contact
