 I don't believe that Gaim has ever auto-fetched vcards; there wasn't any
 icon-in-vcard support in 1.5.x, and throughout the 2.x betas Get Info has
 been necessary to do the retrieval in my experience.  (side note: Adium
 requests the vcard when a contact signs online to work around this issue).
