 What newlines outside of the body element are we displaying? Granted it
 has been a long time since I looked at this stuff but looking at it
 quickly again it still looks to me like kopete is sending
 <body...>\n<span></span>\n</body> and we are rendering those \n as real
 newlines. Is that not what is happening here? Or is the claim here that we
 shouldn't be paying attention to \n in xhtml-im at all and that if kopete
 wants us to be showing newlines they should be using <br/>?

 If the latter, that makes some amount of sense to me given my reading of
 the XEP and my limited understanding of XHTML.
