 This is not a protocol icon complaint :)

 When a contact is idle, but is not away, the "grayed out" of the green
 circle and contact name does not provide quite enough contrast to tell at
 a glance whether someone is idle.

 In previous versions of Gaim, the protocol icon would change from full
 color to grayscale, making it  very obvious that the icon was different.

 Currently, the status indicator icon merely dims somewhat, which is
 somewhat more difficult to discern, especially when tired. It might be
 good to desaturate the status icon to grayscale when the contact is idle,
 which would improve the contrast with non-idle users.
