 Wrong on the first 2, they are unadulterated Ubuntu packages. It's
 possible that I broke pango somehow, but seeing as Pidgin is the only
 thing giving me trouble and a huge number of apps use pango, somehow I
 doubt it. And I did wait to download the deb until I saw reports back from
 other people who said it worked fine for them.

 I know that it is very possible that the issue is specific to my machine,
 but given that it seems to only affect Pidgin, I thought it might be
 helpful to report the problem here and see if anyone else has seen the
 issue and if anyone else has the problem in the future they can find a
 solution here (assuming I get it solved).

 So now, rather than wildly accusing me of things that would make you
 refuse to help me, maybe it would be better either to help me fix it or to
 not post anything at all.
