 In the windows version of pidgin:

 I was having a conversation with someone when I accidentally increased the
 size of my font significantly. To revert my font to my original font, I
 copied and pasted the text from some of my older, normal-sized IMs into my
 message box. Now when I started typing, the font was normal sized again.
 When I sent the IMs, they were normal sized in my window. However, the
 person on the other end insisted that I was still sending IMs in a large
 font size. I wound up fixing this by closing the conversation window and
 then opening it again.
