 Pidgin is able to group several buddies (or rather, one person active on
 several networks and/or screen names) into a single contact. This enables
 me to always get in touch with my fictitious friend John Doe by double
 clicking his name, without me caring if he's using his MSN account
 john.doe at hotmail.com, his ICQ UIN 1234567, his AIM screen name JohnDoe12,
 his IRC nick, his work XMPP server, etc.

 It sounds like you mistakenly contactualized two distinct different
 buddies. If you right click on whatever contact it is that contains the
 multiple buddies and hit expand, you'll see that there are two distinct
 buddies within that contact. If you drag and drop the buddy out of the
 contact, you'll see they are separated again.
