Comment:

 This is Windows XP Home SP2 running on a Pentium 4 Dell Dimension 4600.
 I'm using the default MS-Windows theme.

 What's strange is that the paste trick worked on changing the font as it
 appeared to me, but not as it appeared to the person who i was talking to,
 who was using AIM 6.0 or 6.1 (I'm not sure which). I couldn't recreate
 this error in a conversation with my own screename. Perhaps it is a
 compatibility issue or an error on AIM's end?
