 so i just had the very same problem with mine.  however, it was my aim
 account.  what i did was prevent it from connecting to the internet
 (unplug, disable wireless, whatever), disable the offending account, and
 make a new account in pidgin of my aim account.  i believe i had to change
 the local alias (for the account) to prevent it from crashing again, but
 after i restarted pidgin, i was able to change it back to the original
 account alias without issue.  i have no idea what the original bug was,
 but it crashed absolutely every time i opened pidgin after it
 triedto/loggedinto aim unti i did the steps above.
