 I find that the buddy state notification plugin is enough to handle this.
 I'm having troubles picturing the dialog (ewwww) of what this might look
 like. Although, a plugin writing in the conversation window something like
 "this buddy has signed offline, future messages will be sent to
 ''$screenname'' via ''$network''" and immediately switching to next
 available buddy might do it, at least for those that look at the window
 before hitting send.
