Comment (by marcus):

 The last thing I can think of is a symbol conflict between NSS and the
 OpenSSL libraries brought in via Evolution support.  If you have
 /usr/local/lib/pidgin/gevolution.*, try moving those files to /tmp, and
 see if the crash persists.
