 My reply to the Jeff's comment (which he previously sent me via e-mail, as
 Trac was down):

 Yes, this should be fine. Anyone using it should be checking to ensure
 it loads anyway. If they're a plugin, they should be doing exactly what
 you're doing: checking on load and refusing to load if it's not present.

 Go for it. Make sure to change the error message in your prpl. ;)

 Nice work on the changes! The plugin load check is ideal.

 Also, are you marking strings for translation and adding appropriate
 files to po/POTFILES.in? The following is helpful for checking that
 you've got POTFILES.in right:

         cd po
         intltool-update -m

 P.S. For the record, we (the Pidgin team) generally feel it's
 inappropriate to use g_assert() because that kills the program hard.
