I see is, it's really tricky to configure a google talk account. The user
has to set screen name, server and connect server to make it work.

"Connect server" is determined automatically. The only thing to make it
easier would be to allow you to add username at domain.com. I forget why we
 don't do that.

I tried that with beta6 I guess, it was not working. I just installed
pidgin 2.0.0, and now it works. Thanks to those who fixed it. I should
have tested it beforehand, I know, I'm sorry.

You're right, the way it should be is the username at domain.com format.

 > > I believe the same should apply to this, Pidgin UI should make it
obvious that it supports Google Talk as well. We all know that GTalk is
actually XMPP, but the average user does not.

 > I agree, but I've been vetoed. Anyway, your arguments contradict. First
you say that the problem is that Google Talk is too difficult to configure
(which it isn't), rather than it not being obviously supported. Then you
say the problem is that it isn't obviously supported. Whcih is it?

Let me explain with a real life example. My wife is an everyday Windows
user. She uses Google Talk on Windows where she downloaded and installed
on her own. I convince her to switch to Linux, she installed Ubuntu,
again on her own. She found the Pidgin icon in the Internet menu, which is
installed by default, and clicked it. She wants to add her account, but
there is no Google Talk option in the new account window. What do you
 think she would do next?

She also uses ICQ on Windows. She can choose to use it, get in touch with
me and ask me how to set up Google Talk on Pidgin.

So what I basically say is, it's obvious that we support ICQ, but the
support for Google Talk is not obvious. There's no hint of it even on the
 [http://www.pidgin.im/ Pidgin Project Homepage].

 Thanks,
