 Reasons for implementation:
  * [http://www.xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0172.html XEP-0172] is standards
 track
  * Meebo allows anonymous users (with horrifying names like
 {{{foobarmeebme821537 at guest2.meebo.org/meebome}}}) Such that the only real
 way to know who they are is per nick information.

 Purple probably doesn't need to do much more than handle the {{{<nick
 xmlns='http://jabber.org/protocol/nick'>Ishmael</nick>}}} tags

 As far as pidgin is concerned, some desired features might be:
  * Modify Authorize Buddy dialog to include the nick (if available) in
 quotes before the JID
  * In IM, show nick instead of JID if the nick is provided, but no user
 alias
  * Show the Nickname in the blist tool tip/user info
  * Possibly default the "Alias" field to the Nickname on add.
  * Potential for plugins to modify the nick on away status change.
  * Protocol-specific Menu item or Account setting for modifying nick
