#870: trying out a mobile IM client broke my ability to see "available messages"

 I was a loyal gaim 2.0.0 beta 6 user.  I tried a pocket pc IM client
 yesterday.  I signed on as usual to gaim today and could not longer see
 ichat style "available messages," only "away messages."  I uninstalled
 gaim.  I deleted my Windows Application .gaim folder.  I installed pidgin.
 I set my own "available message" and cannot see it in my buddy list pane
 (yes, I'm my own buddy).  I cannot see those of my other buddies either.

 This is very weird.  Is this ability stored with my login ID somewhere and
 not just based on the client?

 Any thoughts appreciated, your product is the only Windows IM client that
 seems to let me relate to my Macintosh buddies in this way.  They are
 snarky.
