New description:

 As per old Gaim feature request

 [http://www.xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0096.html XEP-0096] (File Transfer)
 support needs improvement.  Specifically for
 [http://www.xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0065.html XEP-0065] (SOCKS5
 Bytestreams) proxy support.  As an added bonus, clients should be able to
 discover a XEP-0065 proxy available on their connected server so that the
 end user would not normally have to configure the proxy.  iChat's
 behaviour in this regard is an excellent example.

 Also, AdiumX RFE [AdiumTicket:1966] seems to depend on this.
