 Just looked back over this ticket. To be clearer, this isn't just a
 winpidgin issue. I can reliably reproduce it on Ubuntu Linux.

 Also, I question whether this should be an "enhancement". Surely not being
 able to set a given image as your XMPP icon is a bug?

 This image is one which causes a problem for me:

 (aside: I mentioned XEP-0084 earlier, I meant XEP-0153. Though, the same
 64x64 recommended size is mentioned in both documents)
