Comment:

 The password in the account dialog is not for identification and only
 really for use with a few private servers(freenode is an exception to this
 because their server has been customized to use the account password in a
 non-standard way).

 The [http://plugins.guifications.org/trac/wiki/irchelper IRC-Helper
 plugin] should do what you want to do.
