 I'm not sure if this is a problem with GTK+ or pidgin or winpidgin, but
 the default behavior for windows apps is to prevent empty strings from
 being copied to the clipboard/copy buffer.

 So, when I select text, press ctrl+C, deselect text, press ctrl+C, press
 ctrl+V, the original selected text should be pasted (at least in Windows)
