 Ah yes you are quite correct.  When I removed the plugin the problem was
 resolved.  Strange in that I was still having this issue before without
 any extra plugins, but now I am not (I did try with just a basic install
 of Pidgin first).  Anyway sorry to have bothered you with a invalid issue.
