Comment (by shreevatsa):
 Here's one thing that happens:
 1. Pidgin user has set GMail to log all chats, and often relies on it
 2. Uses Pidgin to chat with friend who's using Google Talk/GMail
 3. Friend asks Google to go "off-the-record"
 4. Pidgin provides no notification that this has happened.
 5. Many days later, user cannot find the chats in GMail, despite expecting
 them to be there.
The entire thing seems quite a bad feature to me (being able to control
what the *other* person logs), and perhaps it's Google's fault for going
ahead with the "off-the-record" thing even though Pidgin didn't say yes
(from my reading of the XEP), but I think Pidgin should at least notify
 the user when this happens.
