 Installed 5/17/2007 from yum repository as per pidgin download page, under
 FC4.
 I cannot see the meanwhile protocol for selection.  I have uninstalled,
 installed libpurple-meanwhile, reinstalled pidgin, but no luck.

 Manually running pidgin shows no errors, but no Meanwhile protocol
 selection, either.
