Comment:

 it weights the sorting for # of uses.  When you create a status, it sets a
 delete date 6 days from creation.  Each time that state is used, it pushes
 the delete date one day forward.  It shows the 6 states that are furthest
 from being deleted.  This will often be the "most recently used" ones, but
 sometimes will differ, particularly if you heavily use a given state, or
 have heavily used it in the past.

 Does this sound like it matches what you see?
