 You mean you don't want there to be a text insertion cursor in the IM
 history pane (the part where you see the messages you and your buddy have
 already written)? You do realize that typing anything in that frame will
 make the focus jump to the text input box, right? We did that to make it
 easy to start typing a message no matter where focus is. Also, there needs
 to be an insertion cursor in the history pane so that people who don't use
 a mouse can select text from it, I think we added it specifically to
 *help* accessibility.
 I'm assuming that by "steal focus" you mean you can click in it and the
 focus will leave the text input box, right? If so then the fact that
 typing jumps directly to the input box should be most of what you want.
 I'm not at all sure how it breaks scrolling with the keyboard unless you
 mean that it takes longer to scroll because you are moving by line rather
 than scrolling the whole area immediately, but I'm not sure that's a huge
 problem and if I'm right about the cursor being an accessibility necessity
 then there isn't much to be done about it.
